Open air cinema: E.1027
In 1929, Eileen Gray built a house in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin which she named E.1027, combining her own initials with those of Jean Badovici. For her, architecture was not a machine, but an organism born of the gestures, rhythms and light of those who lived there.
Le Corbusier, a guest at the villa, became obsessed with it: he painted a series of murals on its white walls against Gray’s explicit wishes, which she described as an act of vandalism. Years later, he built his own Cabanon right next to E.1027, which has shaped its narrative ever since.
In the courtyard of Bosco, as evening falls, the screening of E.1027 – Eileen Gray and the House by the sea (Beatrice Minger and Christoph Schaub, 2024) recounts this conflict and the question at its heart: what does it mean, for a building, to be lived in?
Booking required.
